iPhone Apps: Write Email in Landscape mode using Firemail

Firemail is a free application has been released on App Store that also lets you type your message in landscape mode. Firemail does not replace the default email application of iPhone. Instead, it just lets iPhone user type the message in landscape form. And, you can send message to email directly from Firemail by hitting a sending button as screen shot below.







iPhone News: Air Sharing Updated v1.0.2

Avatron Software has released an minor update (v1.0.2) for its well-known Air Sharing application. For those you may not heard of Air Sharing, the application allows iPhone users to transfer files from PC and view document, excel, powerpoint, PDF, images and other kinds of text files on iPhone wirelessly.

Here Air Sharing comes with a number of enhancement and bug fixes:

  • All new image viewer
  • Support for very high-resolution images (over 100MB)
  • Full-screen document viewing
  • Support for zipped iWork Files
  • Fixed file system corruption on long path name
  • Fixed handling of special characters in file names
  • Numerous minor bug fixes

iPhone Apps: How To Backup Your iPhone using Chronus


So, for jailbreak iPhone user, you have the privilege to download Chronus from Cydia. Chronus is a 3rd party application for iPhone and iPod Touch. It can keep multiple states of a particular program by saving its preferences/settings/databases. These states are restorable. You can also backup and restore data from applications downloaded from the iPhone App Store. You may also see my post about backup Cydia's application using AptBackup here

These are instructions on how to install and use Chronus to make backups of your iPhone.

INSTALL CHRONUS VIA CYDIA

Launch Cydia from your SpringBoard. Press to select the Sections tab at the bottom right of the screen. Then press to select Utilities from the list of Sections and select Chronus from the list of packages. After the installation is completed successfully you will notice a new Chronus icon on your SpringBoard.

HOW TO USE CHRONUS

Step 1: Launch Chronus by pressing its icon on the SpringBoard. When Chronus opens you will be brought to a list of all the different items that it can backup.


Step 2: Press to select an item you would like to backup. In this example I will choose Calendar. Notice we are now at a blank Calendar list. Press the backup button at the top right hand corner of the screen.


Step 3: Notice now a new restore point will be created. Press the blue arrow on the restore point to view the data saved for backup.


Step 4: Press the button at the top left to return to the restore point list.


Step 5: Press this restore point to view the functions associated with it.


Step 6: A pop up will appear asking what you would like to do with the restore point. You can Restore, Delete, or Email the restore point. In this example I will restore so press the Restore button. You Calendar will now be restored.


Step 7: You can now return to the list of items for backup by pressing the Chronus button at the top left. Or if you would like to email yourself the backup, press the restore point.


Step 8: Then press Email from the pop up menu that appears.


Step 9: Mail will open with the backup as an attachment. You can now send it to any email address you like.

iPhone Tips: Save Images From Safari & Push Mail

Maybe you just want to save an image and import it to your computer or to use as wallpaper. Since iPhone software Update 2.0, you can now save images from Safari browser or Mail.

Open a webpage or email which contains an image that you would like to save. Just tap and hold on the particular image for 2-3 second and a dialogue will pop up asking if you would like to save an image. Tap “Save Image” to confirm and it’s immediately saved to your camera roll. If youremail containing more than one image, you’ll also have an option to save all of them to your camera roll.

Skin your iPhone using Winterboard Application

For those who would like to customize iPhone with new icon, wallpapers and themes, here there is the most recommended application available in Cydia. It’s called Winterboard. Your iPhone 2.0 must already unlocked/jailbroken in order to use WinterBoard. Winterboard on iPhone 2.0 (like its predecessor Summerboard for iPhone 1.1.4) is an iPhone theme manager that allows you to change any WinterBoard/SummerBoard theme on iPhone.


To install Winterboard trough Cydia is very easy, just follow a few step below:

Step 1: Go to “Cydia” and select “sections” on haptic menu

Step2: Select “System” category and select “winterboard”. After installation your iPhone will be restarted automatically.

These are a few themes such as AquaFlivor and Leaf for example.

These second instruction will guide you due to “leaf” theme installation for example.

Step 1: Go to “Cydia” and select “sections” on haptic menu

Step 2: Select “Themes” category and select “Leaf Theme”. Wait for a second

Step 3 : Go back to Home screen and launch Winterboard.

Step 4: Tap on the “Leaf” that you just install and click the Home button.


Step 5: Wait for a few second and let WinterBoard load the “Leaf” theme for you. You’ll then bring back to the locked screen. Unlock it and you’ll see a fresh new look of your iPhone.

QuickPwn 2.1 for Windows is here to jailbreak iPhone firmware 2.1

The iPhone Dev Team has just released QuickPwn 2.1 for Windows. This version can jailbreak the iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod touch v1 and can unlock the original iPhone.

Note: QuickPwn 2.1 does not support the unlock of iPhone 3G (Jailbreak only). Also, it will not work for the new version of iPod Touch.

Connect Air Sharing to Windows Vista


Air Sharing lets you copy & view documents on iPhone, while on-the-go has released a new version recently. The new version (v1.0.1) fixed a number of bugs and greatly improved Windows Vista connectivity with iPhone. It’s come with new features as below:

* Live updating connection details when the network changes

* Fixed Bonjour when the device name contains non-alpha numerics

* Bug fixes to improve performance and stability

* Support for mapping a drive letter in Vista

* Viewing of RTF, RTFD and TXT files with unicode characters

* Better handling of network interruptions and aborted transfer

* Support for viewing syntax-colored PHP scripts

How to Connect Air Sharing to Windows Vista

Please make sure your iPhone have connect to network over 3G/WIFI/EDGE before sync to your PC. Launch Air Sharing and now ready for the computer's connection.

Step 1: Open the "Start" menu and select "Computer".

Step 2: Click "Map network drive" in the toolbar at the top of the computer window

Step 3: Select a drive letter in the drop-down menu.



Step 4: Enter Air Sharing IP address. Air Sharing's current IP address is http://192.168.2.2:8080. Please note, that your HTTP URL/IP address is in the status bar at the bottom. This is the iPhone’s URL your computer will connect to.

Step 6: If you have turned on "Required Password" in Air Sharing setting. Enter your username and password. Vista may ask for you password multiple times. Make sure your username is the one you have set in Air Sharing.

Future Connection

If your would like to launch Air sharing for future connection, make sure that Air Sharing is running and your iPhone connect to network over 3G/WIFI/EDGE services. Open the "Start" menu and click "Computer". Find the network drive under "Network Locations" and double-click it.

If you decide change your current username or password, you just find the "network drive" under "Network Location". Right click on the network drive and select "Disconnect". You have to set up the drive again followed by all steps above.
