Hide SMS Preview in iPhone OS 3.0

Things have changed with the release of the 3.0 firmware which now allows you to hide the preview of any incoming SMS. To activate this feature, simply go to Settings > Messages > and turn “Show Preview” off. As you can see on the image below, Apple also added a feature that will alert you two more times after receiving a SMS if you don’t read it right away. This is a feature that has also been available for a long time to jailbreakers.

Hiding the preview of an SMS won’t completely hide it from showing up on your springboard. You will still get a popup showing the name of the sender and “text message”, with the option for you to view the SMS or just close the popup.

That was a much needed option but I think it’s too bad you still see the name of the sender (or his phone number if not in your contacts). It’s a matter of privacy. A name showing up on your iPhone can still lead to awkward moments.

Tips: How To Import Videos File With An iPhone 3GS To Your Computer

One of the great new features of the iPhone 3GS is its improved camera lens, and most importantly the fact that it can record videos up to 30 fps. After shooting and trimming a video, you can easily upload this video to YouTube, or even email it to a friend. But what if you simply want to import this video to your computer? There is an easy way to copy a video recorded with your iPhone 3G S to your computer.

For PC Or Windows User

If you’re on a PC, go to My Computer and look for “Scanners and Camera”. You should see your iPhone there. Double-click on it and and save your photos and videos to the desired location.

For Mac User

If you’re on a Mac, open the Image Capture app. It will recognize both pictures and videos recorded with your iPhone. Drag and drop the video where you want to save it and that’s it.

How To Enable Emoji Icons On iPhone OS 3.0

There is a simple tips to enable the emoji keyboard on your iPhone. You can now use these little japanese icons. Note that you can delete this app if you don’t want to keep it. Your Emoji keyboard will still be activated.

Step 1: Install Spell Number from the App Store which is a free apps. You can install from direct iTunes link here.

Step 2: Launch the app and type 91929394.59

Step 3: Press the "Home" button

Step 4: Go to Settings > General > Keyboards, and under “Japanese” select “Emoji”

Copy data from MS Office Project to MS Word

We usually work on MS Office project when we deal with project management, project estimation etc…. So I used it to create project estimation document for forwarding that to management and client. But unfortunately, Client don't have MS Office Project installed. So I need to send him in either Excel or Word format.

I planned to copy and paste the data from MS Office project to MS word, when I did that it came like unformatted text. It's not looking good at all. I can't manually format it, Because it is a very big document.

After spending some time on it, found a solution how to do that. Please follow the process below.

• Select the information pasted into Microsoft Word from Microsoft Project.
• On the Table menu, click Convert, and then click Text to Table.
• Under Separate Text At, click Tabs, and then click OK.

That’s it!!! This trick did everything like well formatted and rendered in table. It saved lot of time for me.

Probably, you wonder why still need such application when your iPhone can always connect to the Internet via EDGE / 3G network service. iPhone Dev Team Delays The Releases of iPhone 3GS Jailbreak

The iPhone Dev Team officially announced that it will hold on on the release of the iPhone 3GS jailbreak. The reason is simple. Apple is most likely coming up with 3.0.1 firmware very soon. Releasing the jailbreak would basically allow Apple to figure out what exploit the Dev Team used to jailbreak the 3GS and fix it.

According To iPhone Dev Team:

Here’s the critical point, the reason why we’re delaying our version of the jailbreak: Once the jailbreak is out, Apple will fix the iBoot-family bug we use to accomplish it. They will simply stop signing the old iBoots and only sign the fixed ones. If you bought your phone after Apple has done this, there’s nothing you can do…the jailbreak isn’t going to work for you.

It is possible that Apple will find the bug we use without our handing it to them on a silver platter (via a public jailbreak). In that case, we will have delayed our jailbreak for “nothing”. But we’d rather be safe than sorry!

Apple is surely coming out with a 3.0.1 firmware release shortly. They need to fix ultrasn0w. They need to fix some UI issues. 3.0 is buggy and 3.0.1 is coming. We’re going to wait and see what 3.0.1 brings before figuring out the release date for our version of the jailbreak.

In the meantime, we have some remaining 3.0 jailbreak issues to investigate, including push notification. Thanks for being patient with us while we took a 3GS “timeout”!

Hopefully, Apple will release 3.0.1 soon and won’t find the bug used to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS.

Guide To Jailbreak iPhone 3G For 3.0 Firmware Using Redsn0w (Windows)

Developed by iPhone Dev Team, Redsn0w is a replacement of QuickPwn to jailbreak iPhone 3.0. The jailbreak process is very straightforward that any iPhone owner can manage the jailbreak. Visit at iPhone Dev Team Blog for more information about Redsn0w.

Please read through the below notes before taking action to jailbreak your iPhone 3G:

• RedSn0W only suitable for the recent iPhone OS 3.0 firmware updated.
• This jailbreak guide is designed for Windows user only. For Mac user, you can use PwnageTool 3.0 to jailbreak.
• Redsn0w is work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).
• For iPhone 3GS user, please do not use Redsn0w to jailbreak your new iPhone. Presently, there is no way to jailbreak iPhone 3GS.
• If you’re using lower version of firmware (e.g. 1.1, 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2), you can also follow these jailbreak procedures to upgrade the firmware to 3.0. But please bear in mind, that you’ll have to re-install all the Cydia applications after upgrade. And, at the time I write this post, not all Cydia applications (e.g. AptBackup, iBluetooth, Backgrounder, iRealSMS, MySMS, BossTool, Quickgold) are compatible with iPhone 3.0. So, if you have any cydia applications that you rely on, please ensure its compatibility before upgrading.

Step 1: Make sure you have upgraded to iTunes version 8.2 and backup your iPhone data by synchronizing it with iTunes 8.2.

Step 2: Download RedSn0w 0.7.2 (or download here) and iPhone 3G 3.0 firmware. Save them all in the same folder. Extract/unzip Redsn0w. Make sure you have all the files in place before continue.

Installing iPhone 3.0 OS via iTunes 8.2

Step 3: Just connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone in iTunes. You might see all information about you iPhone and the button “Upgrade” and “Restore” appear in iTunes window.

Step 4: Hold the “SHIFT” key and click the “Restore” button simultaneously. The iTunes file dialog will pop up for you to select the firmware file. Locate the “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” that you have downloaded in previous step and click “Open”.

Step 5: iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 3.0 automatically. Keep your iPhone connected, don’t touch anything and wait until the process complete.

Jailbreak using RedSn0w

Step 6: Your iPhone should completely restore to firmware 3.0. But it’s still locked right now. Please power off your iPhone (but keep it connected with USB cable). However, If your bought unlocked iPhone original from factory settings you iTunes shows that your iPhone is unlock successfully and you don't need to unlock it, just proceed to the next step.

Step 7: Launch RedSn0w to start jailbreak your iPhone 3G. Make sure your iPhone connect via USB cable and then click "Next" button to proceed.


Step 8: You are required to provide the firmware 3.0 IPSW file. Click “Browse” button to locate the “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” were you had downloaded in Step 2.

Redsn0w will then verify the firmware file. If it’s correct, redsn0w will show the message “IPSW successfully identified”. Then click “Next” button to continue.

Step 9: You are required to configure the settings for RedSn0w. Normally, you could mark all checkboxes (i.e. Install Cydia, Install Icy). If you would like not to install icy, just left “Install Icy” unmarked. Click "Next" button to proceed.


Step 10: Redsn0w will instruct you to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Ensure your iPhone is connected (via USB) and it’s turned OFF. If you’re ready, click “Next” to continue.

Step 11: Redsn0w automatically puts the iPhone into DFU mode. After that, you’ll be instructed to hold the "Power" button for 3 seconds. Then hold "Power" and "Home" buttons together for 10 seconds. Next, release "Power" button and continue to hold "Home" button for 30 seconds until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Note: Timing is very important here, if you may not be able to put the iPhone into DFU mode for the first trial. Simply click the “Back” button to go back and try to follow the instructions again. Redsn0w will start the jailbreak process only if it detects your iPhone is properly put into DFU mode.

Step 12: If you have successfully put the iPhone into DFU mode, redsn0w will automatically start the jailbreak process.


Step 13: During jailbreaking process, your iPhone screen shows downloading jailbreak data and flashing NOR progress. What you have to do just keep waiting and don’t touch anything to your iPhone.

Step 14: RedSn0w will let you know the jailbreak process is successful. Your iPhone will be restarted automatically. This process will take 3-5 minutes to complete. Just wait until the process been done and your iPhone will be rebooted again.

Step 15: Now jailbreaking process has complete with iPhone 3.0 OS. Finally, sync back your iPhone to restore your backups data with iTunes 8.2.

Step 16: If your iPhone 3G is still unlock and not receive your carrier signal, you can checkout my post on how to unlock iPhone 3G for OS 3.0 using Ultrasn0w. For those who already use unlocked iPhone version from previous factory setting you can ignore this step. However this step is use full for those who would like to unlock the iPhone 3G.

Jailbreak And Unlock For iPhone 3GS Confirmed

Less than a week after the launch of the iPhone 3GS, the Dev Team confirmed it will soon be possible to jailbreak the 24Kpwn exploit that the hybrid team used on the iPod Touch 2G. This 24Kpwn exploit applies for the bootrom of the iPhone 3GS. In other words, you will soon be able to use RedSn0w to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS.

The other news is that once jailbroken, you will be able to use the current version of UltraSn0w to unlock the iPhone 3GS.

This is great news, but how did it happen? Why didn’t Apple fix this in their normal cat&mouse fashion? Well it seems this bootrom was cut in about the August 2008 timeframe, so the unintended early reveal of 24Kpwn earlier this year didn’t affect the iPhone 3GS.

Important: Apple has not given up on the cat&mouse game, and in fact there are challenging aspects of the 3GS jailbreak that aren’t in the other devices. It’ll take some time to safely work these into our tools, but the fundamental weaknesses are there: The bootrom is exploitable via 24Kpwn, and the baseband is exploitable via ultrasn0w. (And just like with the 3G, ultrasn0w for 3GS requires that you not update your baseband when Apple comes out with new firmware.)

If you’re really into iPhone hacking, the Dev Team released the technical notes about the 24Kpwn exploit in the iPhone 3GS. These notes can be found here. There is no information so far on the expected release date of the iPhone 3GS jailbreak but I am confident the Dev Team will have it ready within the next 2 weeks. The sooner, the better. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going nuts with my unjailbroken iPhone.

The iPhone 3GS is Waterproof?

This is an undocumented feature of the iPhone 3GS. Apparently the new iPhone is waterproof…i can't believe it? its that true?. Well, this guy was trying out video recording by the swimming pool when the iPhone accidentally slipped off his hand. The result: the first underwater video recorded with an iPhone. Ssh your iPhone. You may see instruction on how to install .deb file via SSH. And make a folder called AutoInstall in/var/root/Media/Cydia/ so you have /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall which is case sensitive and drop this debs file in the autoinstall folder, reboot and respring your iPhone.

How to submit all posts to Google webmasters for better indexing all the posts in my blog?

You all know that the Blogger’s atom.xml file will burn only the top 25 results in the feed. This is the file usually we will submit to the Google webmaster tool to index our blog posts. But because it only returns top 25, Google crawler indexes only these 25 and it don’t care about the posts which are older than 25. So, there you are loosing your visitors to see those posts because they won’t be show up in the search results  because of not crawled well. So how to solve this issue? and how to submit all posts to Google webmasters?

Solution:

Before you proceed, please check the below posts once for the better understanding.

Once you read above posts you will get complete idea of how to solve the problem.

• Open Google webmaster site and submit the below url

1. For submitting the top 50 blog feed results then use

   atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=50

1. For submitting from 50 to 100 results then use

         atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=50&max-results=100

So you can submit all the posts to Google webmasters to crawl all the posts instead of only top 25. How good it is?

Bloggers feed is showing only 25 posts, how to get all?

This is the question in my mind from long time that why feed is not showing all the posts when I open atom.xml. It always get me the top 25 posts in the feed. So how to get all the posts?

Solution:

• We need to use certain querystring parameters to solve the issue to get all the posts.

1. start-index : Which tells to the blogger feed generator that starts from this post.
2. max-results : Which tells to the blogger feed generator that the number of maximum results count from the start index.
3. redirect : Which is not actually needed. If you enabled post feed redirection then only we need this. But, better to keep this always in the feed url. You can find the more information about it here.

How to use:

After the atom.xml feed url, append the below querystrng url.

?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=50

For testing you can browse my feed http://praveenbattula.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=50

Which will burn you the top 50 posts in the feed. Actually we get top 25 only by default, but from the solution I told you, which will return how many posts you want.

For getting top 100 results use this querystring url

?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=100

For getting the results between 50 to 100, use this

?redirect=false&start-index=50&max-results=100

You can give any value to the parameters start-index and max-results to get that many results…

How to submit blogspot feed to Google webmaster where feedburner feed is enabled in blogspot blog

I enabled the option Post Feed redirection url in my blog settings. From the time I did that Google webmaster tool is started giving the error "URL not allowed". But I need to enable the post feed redirection to Feedburner instead of general atom.xml feed. So how to solve this problem? After read the Google blog documentation found some attributes how to solve this issue.

For my blog the atom/feed url is http://praveenbattula.blogspot.com/atom.xml. When I type this, it will redirect to my feedburner url http://feeds2.feedburner.com/praveenbattula. So when I submit the atom.xml in the Google webmaster it’s not taking this and gives me the error "URL not allowed" because of the redirection. So finally I understood that redirection is the problem.

If you want to use custom redirected feed like FeedBurner then you need to use the "redirect" querystring parameter to the url of your feed, which stops the redirection.

atom.xml?redirect=false

So, when I use the url http://praveenbattula.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false i always see the message "successfully crawled" in Google webmaster tool.

So except in Google webmaster tool I don’t use the redirect querystring. So, all users will see my customized feedburner feed, only webmaster crawler see my atom.xml feed. How nice it is….

Database Publishing Wizard – Generate Script for Schema and Data

When working with databases we may get a requirement to generate the script for the schema and sometimes generate the script for data too. For generating script for Schema is what we will do usually in the projects, but generating the script for data is not everyone requirement. But sometimes we need to do that as well. So this article explains both generating the script for Schema and data.

There is a cool feature from Microsoft sql server team which will do this for us, called Database Publishing Wizard. It has the commands which supports for generating scripts for schema as well as data.

iPhone OS 3.0 Feature Comparison

Apple claimed that iPhone 3.0 OS comes with over a hundred new features for your iPhone. You may have already upgraded to iPhone 3.0 OS and are enjoying all the new features. But there is a catch. Not all iPhones can support all the new features bundled in iPhone 3.0. Apple has published a chart that highlights the difference. As you can reveal from the feature chart, if you’re still using the iPhone 2G (i.e. 1st generation iPhone), you will not be able to use MMS, stereo bluetooth and Internet tethering. And, to enjoy all new features in iPhone 3.0 OS, you better upgrade to the new iPhone 3GS. You might be would like to read iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G feature comparison.

Please also note the following:

1. Peer-to-peer connectivity requires compatible applications, which can be downloaded from the App Store when available.
2. For iPhone 2G, it does not support using Bluetooth for peer-to-peer connectivity. It can only use Wi-Fi and cellular data networks for peer-to-peer connectivity.
3. MMS is not available in all areas. Please check with your carrier for details.
4. Internet tethering is not currently offered in the United States and some other countries. Please check with your carrier for availability.

Preview: psx4iphone PlayStation Emulator Running On iPhone 3GS

iPhone “jailbreak artist” ZodTTD released a video showing psx4iphone, a PlayStation emulator, running on a non-jailbroken iPhone 3GS and it looks great (see video below). Zod has asked those interested to send $10 plus your 40 character device id to zodttd@zodttd.com.

I now have psx4iphone running very speedy on the 3GS. It’s at the point where Final Fantasy 7 is fullspeed at very least without sound. The build is rough around the edges, as you can’t switch games without restarting the emulator, and only memory card saves are currently working, no save states just yet. Guide To Jailbreak And Unlock iPhone 2G For 3.0 Firmware using RedSn0w (Windows)

Developed by iPhone Dev Team, Redsn0w is a replacement of QuickPwn to jailbreak iPhone 3.0. The jailbreak process is very straightforward that any iPhone owner can manage the jailbreak. Visit at iPhone Dev Team Blog for more information about Redsn0w.

Please read through the below notes before taking action to jailbreak your iPhone:

• RedSn0W only suitable for the recent iPhone OS 3.0 firmware updated.
• This jailbreak guide is designed for Windows user only. For Mac user, you can use PwnageTool 3.0 to jailbreak.
• Redsn0w is work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).
• This guide is suitable to jailbreak & unlock iPhone 2G (the 1st generation iPhone).
• If you’re using lower version of firmware (e.g. 1.1, 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2), you can also follow these jailbreak procedures to upgrade the firmware to 3.0. But please bear in mind, that you’ll have to re-install all the Cydia applications after upgrade. And, at the time I write this post, not all Cydia applications (e.g. AptBackup, iBluetooth, Backgrounder, iRealSMS, MySMS, BossTool, Quickgold) are compatible with iPhone 3.0. So, if you have any cydia applications that you rely on, please ensure its compatibility before upgrading.

Step 1: Make sure you have upgraded to iTunes version 8.2 and backup your iPhone data by synchronizing it with iTunes 8.2.

Step 2: Download RedSn0w 0.7.2 (or download here), Bootloader 3.9, Bootloader 4.6 and iPhone 2G 3.0 firmware. Save them all in the same folder. Extract/unzip Redsn0w. Make sure you have all the files in place before continue.

Installing iPhone 3.0 OS via iTunes 8.2

Step 3: Just connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone in iTunes. You might see all information about you iPhone and the button “Upgrade” and “Restore” appear in iTunes window.

Step 4: Hold the “SHIFT” key and click the “Restore” button simultaneously. The iTunes file dialog will pop up for you to select the firmware file. Locate the “iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” that you have downloaded in previous step and click “Open”.

Step 5: iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 3.0 automatically. Keep your iPhone connected, don’t touch anything and wait until the process complete.

Unlock & Jailbreak using RedSn0w

Step 6: Your iPhone should completely restore to firmware 3.0. But it’s still locked right now. Please power off your iPhone (but keep it connected with USB cable).

Step 7: Launch RedSn0w to start jailbreak & unlock. Make sure your iPhone connect via USB cable and then click "Next" button to proceed.


Step 8: You are required to provide the firmware 3.0 IPSW file. Click “Browse” button to locate the “iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” were you had downloaded in Step 2.

Redsn0w will then verify the firmware file. If it’s correct, redsn0w will show the message “IPSW successfully identified”. Then click “Next” button to continue.

Step 9: You are required to configure the settings for RedSn0w. Normally, you could mark all checkboxes (i.e. Install Cydia, Install Icy & Unlock). If you would like not to install icy, just left “Install Icy” unmarked. Click "Next" button to proceed.

Step 10: Locate the bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 files that you have downloaded at Step 2 by clicking “Browse” button. Then click "Next" button to proceed.

Step 11: Redsn0w will instruct you to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Ensure your iPhone is connected (via USB) and it’s turned OFF. If you’re ready, click “Next” to continue.

Step 12: Redsn0w automatically puts the iPhone into DFU mode. After that, you’ll be instructed to hold the "Power" button for 3 seconds. Then hold "Power" and "Home" buttons together for 10 seconds. Next, release "Power" button and continue to hold "Home" button for 30 seconds until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Note: Timing is very important here, if you may not be able to put the iPhone into DFU mode for the first trial. Don’t worry. Simply click the “Back” button to go back and try to follow the instructions again. Redsn0w will start the jailbreak process only if it detects your iPhone is properly put into DFU mode.

Step 13: If you have successfully put the iPhone into DFU mode, redsn0w will automatically start the jailbreak process.


Step 14: During unlocking & jailbreaking process, your iPhone screen shows downloading jailbreak data and flashing NOR progress. What you have to do just keep waiting and don’t touch anything to your iPhone.

Step 15: RedSn0w will let you know the jailbreak process is successful. Your iPhone will be restarted and automatically launch BootNeuter to perform unlock. This process will take 3-5 minutes to complete. Just wait until the process been done and your iPhone will be rebooted again.

Step 16: Now unlocking & jailbreaking process has complete with iPhone 3.0 OS. Finally, sync back your iPhone to restore your backups data with iTunes 8.2.
